New Route Announced - Salzburg to Monaco!
A new route for the 2009 Red Bull X-Alps has been announced and for the first time in the event’s history, the race will start in Salzburg, Austria.

Encompassing a straight-line distance of 818km and a total of seven turnpoints in Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France, the route is the most strategically difficult yet.

Athletes will begin on Sunday July 19, 2009 in the central area of the beautiful baroque city of Salzburg, famous for being the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the setting for the Sound of Music.

However, the 30 participants won’t have time for sightseeing as they race out of the city and up to the Gaisberg, the first turnpoint. At 1265m above sea level and just 6km as the crow flies from the start, the Gaisberg is a favourite take-off point for local paragliders and will be the first test of endurance for competitors.
